Blackmailer threatens MHI
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (hereafter "MHI") received a letter from a former worker of a company, which is a subcontractor of MHI Takasago Machinery Works and MHI Kobe Shipyard & Machinery Works. (hereafter "Company-A")
The contents of the letter are as follows:

1. When I was working for Company-A, I made an improper welding formation for Base Plates (*1) of main feedwater pumps used in the secondary system of nuclear power stations.
2. I would like MHI to support me to obtain the compensation, 40 million Japanese yen, from Company-A.In case there is no response from MHI or Company-A, I will inform related utility companies regarding the fact mentioned above item-1.

MHI has cross-examined the management of Company-A and received an explanation that "there is no such a fact as written in the letter".
MHI has confirmed, as a result of analytical evaluation, that the strength of the Base Plate can be maintained even if such an improper welding formation is made.
MHI has also confirmed there is no deviation from Japanese regulations or technical guidelines (*2).

In order for the fact-finding of the above, MHI is planning to make inspection of Base Plates in accordance with the discussion with related utility companies.

The letter contains similar description regarding parts of tunnel boring machines, but related tunneling construction has completed without any troubles with boring machines.
