| MHI to Hold Seminar in Hanoi To Respond to Increasing Business Opportunities For Large-scale Social Infrastructure Projects |
| Tokyo, March 6, 2007 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will hold a seminar in Hanoi, Vietnam, on March 7 to introduce its products to that country. Against the backdrop of Vietnam's steady economic growth, business opportunities are rapidly increasing for large-scale social infrastructure projects such as power generation plants and subway construction. In view of these market trends, MHI looks to promote the company's wide spectrum of products, including power generation and transportation systems, through the seminar. At the same time, the company aims to use the occasion to further enhance the presence of its Hanoi Representative Office established last summer. |
The seminar, to be held at the Hilton Hanoi Opera hotel, will be attended by a number of officials of Vietnamese government, including Ministry of Industry and Electricity of Vietnam (EVN), as well as executives from the private sector and Japanese government officials in Vietnam. From MHI, Hideo Egawa, Director and Executive Vice President of MHI and other executives will attend. Approximately 250 people are expected to participate. Through the seminar, MHI will introduce its products related to large-scale projects, including gas turbine combined-cycle (GTCC) power generation systems, marine diesel engines and transportation systems. At the same time, the company will also give a presentation about its full spectrum of business operations and introduce its products using models and panels. The seminar will close with a reception to commemorate the event and to boost the presence of the recently founded representative office. MHI's communication robot "wakamaru" will be on hand to serve as a cute guide. MHI has long operated in the Vietnamese market through its Ho Chi Minh City Representative Office, but as business opportunities have increased for social infrastructure projects, the importance of Hanoi has strengthened significantly, leading the company to establish a new office in Hanoi last July. MHI's closer focus on the Vietnamese market is also demonstrated by a meeting held last December of executives of company bases in neighboring nations, while the seminar in Hanoi is the latest manifestation of MHI's commitment to the Vietnamese market. Going forward, the company will provide its full support to its two offices in Vietnam. Since 2000 Vietnam's economy has been growing at an annual rate of 6-7%, and in tandem with economic development the number of large-scale projects is increasing. In late 2005, MHI received a full-turnkey order from EVN for construction of the O Mon Thermal Power Plant. Now, with the leverage of the seminar, the company will further strengthen its marketing activities in Vietnam in a quest for additional orders. # # #
