MHI Receives Orders for Two MOSS-type 145,000 m3 LNG Carriers
To be Chartered by Taiwanese Oil Company
Tokyo, October 19, 2006 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received two orders for MOSS-type LNG carriers featuring a tank capacity of 145,000 cubic meters from NiMiC. No.1 S.A. and NiMiC. No.3 S.A. The two companies, both based in Panama, are joint ventures between Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) and Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

The ships on order will be constructed at MHI's Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works, with delivery slated for the third quarter of 2009 and the first quarter of 2010. Both ships are to be operated under long-term charter by Chinese Petroleum Corporation of Taiwan. In conjunction with the project, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd. has been contracted to build two sister ships of identical design.

The LNG carriers on order will each feature four MOSS-type spherical tanks collectively holding up to 145,000 cubic meters of LNG. MHI believes that high evaluation of its lengthy record in LNG carrier construction, its proven maintenance capability and superior technologies resulted in its winning of the two orders.

The latest orders boost the number of orders on hand for MHI's large-size LNG carriers to 12. Going forward, MHI will continue to aggressively seek customers for its high-value-added vessels, including LNG, LPG and other gas carriers, which are projected to be in increasing demand in the years ahead.
