For 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters
Tokyo, September 12, 2006 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) will commence shipments of cargo doors and door surround panels for 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters* (BCF) this week. The components will be dispatched from two MHI manufacturing plants: cargo doors from the Oye plant of MHI's Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works in Aichi Prefecture and door surround panels from the Eba Plant of the Hiroshima Machinery Works in Hiroshima Prefecture. A ceremony to celebrate the first shipment was held today at the Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works.

MHI is to supply these components for the 747-400BCF based on a contract Boeing awarded to the company in September 2004. The cargo doors and door surround panels manufactured by MHI will be delivered to Taikoo (Xiamen) Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd. (TAECO) of Xiamen, China, which is Boeing's conversion facility for 747-400BCFs. The cargo doors are 3.4 meters in width and 3.8 meters in height and weigh 800 kilograms. The door surround panels measure 9.8 meters wide and 5.7 meters high and weigh 1,700 kilograms.

The 747-400BCF has a maximum payload capacity of 250,000 pounds (113,000 kilograms) with a maximum range of 4,100 nautical miles (7,600 kilometers). Its maximum takeoff weight is 870,000 pounds (394,000 kilograms).

In 2000 Boeing and MHI strengthened their long-term cooperative relationship by signing a memorandum under which the two partners pledged to build on their mutual trust in order to develop and enhance their respective operations in aerospace and diverse other business areas. MHI has been in a collaborative relationship with Boeing in the supply of composite material wing boxes for the Boeing 787 as well as fuselage panels for the 767 and 777.

Now that the relationship between Boeing and MHI has been further solidified, in the years ahead, as leading companies in the global aerospace industry, the two partners will continue to work together to provide the products, services and solutions the world requires.
* Note: 747-400 Boeing Converted Freighters are converted from existing passenger planes, as opposed to new airplanes that are manufactured as freighters.
