The APM system at Atlanta Airport, an automated passenger transport system, will connect the new concourse at the airport and a consolidated rental car facility through a convention center. Under the contract signed on October 20, the team will undertake design, engineering, construction and the supply of the system. The contract also includes a clause offering an option on operation and maintenance agreement of the system. The APM system includes, driverless rubber-wheel vehicles, signal system and associated facilities. To cope with increasing numbers of users of the airport and nearby facilities, APM system was selected to replace bus system that is currently used for the transportation from the terminal at the Atlanta Airport.

The latest order marks the third APM order placed to MHI from the U.S., following similar orders for the Miami International Airport in 1999 and the Washington Dulles International Airport in 2003. In other area of globes, MHI has successfully received APM orders for Singapore's Changi Airport in 2002, Korea's Incheon International Airport in 2003 and Dubai International Airport in 2004, demonstrating its superior expertise and capability in APM worldwide.

In the U.S., introduction of a large-scale APM system are being considered at several major airports along with their expansion. Major airports at other countries are also planning similar programs to cope with rapid increase in passenger traffic. On the strength of the new order and these trends, MHI will further strengthen its marketing activities to expand orders for APM.
