| MHI Receives Thai Order for MACH-30G Gas Engine Power Plant | ||||||||||||||||||
| Tokyo, October 4, 2005 - Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has received an order for a gas engine power plant from Thai National Power Company Ltd. (TNP), a Thai subsidiary of International Power plc*. The 23 MW (megawatt) power plant on order will incorporate MHI's MACH-30G gas engines. The MACH-30G is MHI's best selling gas engine, recording aggregate orders for more than 100 units since its introduction in 2001. The plant is scheduled to go on-stream in October 2006. | ||||||||||||||||||
The new plant is to be built at TNP's power plant site within Siam Eastern Industrial Park in Rayong Province, located approximately 170 kilometers southeast of Bangkok. The new power plant will comprise four units of the 18MACH-30G, an 18-cylinder vee type gas engine with 5.75 MW rated output. The electricity generated will be supplied to customers within the industrial park. The MACH-30G is a low-emission, high-performance gas engine that has achieved outstanding 45.5% power-generation efficiency - the highest level among gas engines of this class - and the lowest level of NOx emissions: 0.5g/kWh, excelling gas turbines. In tandem with increasing demand for distributed power sources, MHI has already completed numerous deliveries of the MACH-30G, mainly in the Japanese market. Counting the latest order, the company has received orders for a total of 105 units, including 7 from overseas. The latest order was awarded to MHI after an international bidding competition. MHI believes the decision to award the contract to MHI recognized the MACH-30G's outstanding efficiency, the proven delivery record and operational performance of a 16MACH-30G power plant (16 cylinders, 5.1 MW) previously installed at Kangwal Textile Co., Ltd. in Thailand (in operation since November 2003), as well as MHI's maintenance service capability in Thailand. On the strength of the latest order, MHI plans to strengthen its marketing activities in the region further, in order to promote export sales of the MACH gas engines on full scale. Note: International Power plc is one of the UK's major independent power producers (IPP). It operates power plants in Asia, Australia, Europe, Middle East and North America and has interests in nearly 40 power plants in 17 countries with a net power generation capacity of more than 16,000 MW.
