| MHI Ships Components for 500th Boeing 777 | ||||||
| Tokyo, September 15, 2004 -- Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has shipped components for the 500th Boeing 777: the aft fuselage from its Hiroshima Machinery Works, and the tail fuselage and entry doors from its Nagoya Aerospace Systems Works. The company has been supplying Boeing with components for the 777 since 1993. The plane has been in service worldwide since 1995. | ||||||
The 777 family of airplanes, acclaimed by airlines worldwide for their economy and reliability, is currently available in five models. The second model, the 777-200ER (extended range), entered commercial service in 1997, followed the next year by the 777-300, a stretched version. In 2000 Boeing then launched two longer-range derivatives: the 777-300 ER and 777-200LR (longer range). Boeing delivered the first 777-300ER to Air France in April 2004. The components MHI shipped this time are for the 10th unit of that plane to be produced. The 777-200LR will feature the longest maximum range among the world's commercial jets: 9,420 nautical miles (17,446 kilometers). This will enable nonstop flights between New York and Kuala Lumpur. MHI will ship the components for the first 777-200LR in October; the aft fuselage will leave Hiroshima on the 8th and tail fuselage departs from Nagoya on the 20th. The first customer delivery of the 777-200LR is scheduled during the first quarter of 2006. On the strength of more than a decade of dependable component supply, MHI will continue to work together with Boeing to provide products, services and solutions the world requires. # # #
