Wadamisaki Battery
Kaishu Katsu

In an effort to defend the coastal line from possible attacks by external military vessels, the battery was built towards the end of the feudal age, the Yedo Period. Designed by Kaishu Katsu, the structure was completed in 1864.

It is of blocks of stone outside with wooden interior. Cost of construction is estimated approximately 25,000 ryo. The historic spot is open to the public.

The battery was surrounded by a star-shaped soil mound, about 70 meters north and south, and 60 meters east and west, those days.
